Bulk Beef Purchasing Program

2019 Bulk Beef Purchasing Program is SOLD OUT!

We will begin taking reservations for the 2020 Wells Farms Bulk Beef Purchasing Program in February 2020.  Make sure to sign up for our email updates to be notified when the doors open to the program.

We know that many of our customers prefer to purchase beef in bulk quantities to have in their freezer to use anytime.  Buying beef in bulk can be intimidating if you have never done it before.  If this is your first time or you are an old pro at ordering bulk beef off the farm, we are here to help you through the process.

Here are a few things you may be curious about when considering purchasing beef in bulk

2019 Price

Deposit Required

Whole Beef

$3.20/lb hanging weight including processing

Half Beef

$3.25 /lb.  hanging weight including processing

Quarter Beef

$3.25 /lb.  hanging weight including processing

Why are deposits required?

Non-refundable deposits are required at the time of reserving your whole, half or quarter beef order.  We only have a limited number of beef available for quarters and halves each year, therefore to make sure have enough available we require a deposit when ordering.  The deposit will be deducted from your final balance due when the beef goes to the butcher.

How much does the beef weigh?

We would estimate that the hanging weight for a quarter would range from 150-220 lbs and a half 325-440.  These are estimates, as each animal grows at a different rate, therefore, the weight at the time of processing will vary per animal.  You will receive a final weight and balance due when the beef is processed.  The balance due to us will be the $3.25 x hanging weight.  Your deposit will be deducted from this total due.

How much beef will I take home?

The amount of beef you will take home will be less than the hanging weight and will vary based on how which cuts are chosen and much bone is left in the cuts you select.

When will the Beef be ready?

We will begin taking reservations for 2019 beef orders from previous customers starting February 1, 2019.  Starting February 15, 2019, we will open up the remainder available to new customers.  The beef will be ready for your freezer in late summer 2019. Why can’t we give an exact date?  Cattle, just like humans, grow at different rates, therefore predicting an exact date they will be ready for market at this time is hard to do.  As we approach summer, we will be able to give you a closer estimate of when you can expect your beef.

Cut selections?

To streamline the process, we will handle communications with the butcher, we will arrange to pick up your beef from the butcher when it is ready.

If you are purchasing a half of beef, we will happily work with you to customize your cuts.

As for purchasing quarters, in an attempt to reduce confusion, cutting instructions will be standardized.  However, if you have special requests for cuts we will do our best to accommodate your preference.  Customers purchasing quarters can expect to receive the following cuts of beef (quantities of cuts will vary with the size of the individual animal harvested):

Rib Steaks

T-Bone Steaks

Porterhouse Steaks

Sirloin Steaks

Chuck Roasts

Rump Roasts

Sirloin Tip Roast

Short Ribs

Skirt Steak

Ground beef

Marrow Bones

*Liver, Tongue, Heart and other specialty cuts may be available upon request.

Receiving your beef?

We will notify you when we take your beef into the butcher to be processed.  The beef will be dry aged for approximately 2 weeks after slaughter.  When your beef is cut and packaged, We will arrange to pick up your beef from the butcher and you will receive a phone call from us notifying you that your beef is ready for pick up from the farm during a specified time or delivery arrangements can be made. It is important that you pick up your beef during the specified time, as we don't have the freezer capacity to store it for you.

We understand this process differs from previous years and you may have some questions.  Please feel free to reach out via email (wellsfarmsbeef@gmail.com) or phone (608-444-2100) with any questions you may have.  We are happy to help guide you through the process.
