I love hosting and feeding friends and family. Sometimes though it can be a daunting task to come up with the menu on what to feed everyone, especially if you are feeding a crowd. We recently hosted a group on the farm and decided upon a 'Burger Bar' to feed the crowd.
A burger bar can sound like a big undertaking but I have made it easy for you with a downloadable checklist of all the items we had on our burger bar.
One of the first tips to creating The Ultimate Burger Bar is the star of the burger - the beef! We believe hand pattied burgers are the way to go, so we used our Wells Farms Beef ground beef and made up a bunch of burger patties. Hand made patties are easy to make, so don't get hung up on the idea of making your own burger patties.
In addition to the burgers we also offered an assortment of brats and natural casing hotdogs that we purchased at our local farmers market.
The next important part of hosting The Ultimate Burger Bar is the toppings and buns! You can go absolutely crazy here or keep it simple - it's your burger bar so you do you!
Some of the items we had on the bar were - 3 types of buns (white, sesame seed buns, and brioche), bacon, sliced tomato, lettuce, onions (fresh sliced and french fried), pickles, jalapenos, avocado, mushrooms, and a local favorite - Sweet Onion Maple Thyme jam. We also love the flavor of grilled tomatoes with beef, so we had several skewers of grape tomatoes that we grilled with the burgers and had available for guests to choose.
The other important aspect to a burger bar is the CHEESE!! And living in The Dairy State of Wisconsin makes your cheese choices even more important. We had the following selection of local cheeses - Cheddar, Colby, Swiss, Monterrey Jack, Pepper Jack, and Feta.
We rounded out our burger bar with a few different side dishes. Those included our popular Cowboy Beans, Watermelon and Watermelon/Basil/Feta salad, Caprese Salad, Macaroni Salad, and Deviled Eggs.
Overall the Burger Bar was a hit and everyone enjoyed crafting their own Ultimate Burger! One of the guests was from out of the country and got to experience his first American BBQ with us and I think the Burger Bar was a great way to let him experience a good old fashioned American backyard cookout!
I would love to hear what you would add toppings you would add to make your own ultimate burger. Leave a comment below or send me an email at wellsfarmsbeef@gmail.com.
